Strategies for Coalitions and Affiliated Organizations Web

This session discusses the different roles and
functions of 501(c)(3)s, 501(c)(4)s, and PACs,
and the federal rules on how these types of organizations work
together. In addition, it explores the legal separation necessary
between affiliated organizations, the fundraising constraints of each
organization, the lobbying distinctions and permissible electoral activity
for each organization.

organization can lobby for the public interest? This session will
explain the federal tax laws governing 501(c)(3)
lobbying, including how to calculate your lobbying limits under the
insubstantial part test and the 501(h) expenditure test, definitions of
direct and grassroots lobbying, exceptions to the definition of lobbying
and the application of these rules to ballot measure activities.
California Ballot Measures Web
Workshop (8/27/2009)
This one-hour training hosted by Alliance
for Justice will help to demystify the ballot measure process by helping
groups understand the limits placed on their ballot measure advocacy by
federal tax law; the California ballot measure disclosure reporting laws,
including when and how to file the required reports; and the
implications of raising money for work on ballot measures and tips on how
to do so to limit the impact of the California disclosure requirements.
