Coalition Activities Update

PRESS EVENT WITH FRANCES STRICKLAND

On April 28th the group hosted an amazing kick off press event that featured Ohio's First Lady Frances Strickland and the Valley's Congressman Tim Ryan. The event was covered by print and television media outlets alike. Kudos to all involved for a spectacular event.

BUSINESS OUTREACH COMMITTEE

On May 23rd the first of two Business Outreach Committee meetings was hosted by the Julie Youngstown Business Incubator. The event developed into a focus group of sort to provide businesses the opportunity to inform our outreach work. The group will reconvene on June 17th at 8:00 AM to review the materials Ferris Marketing puts together utilizing the feedback of the business group.

STATE BUDGET CORRECTIONS

The state budget corrections process is taking place. Currently, the corrections bill has gone through the House and is in the Senate for hearings. The House version featured support for making the Children's Buy In Program (CBI) available at 250% FPL. Additionally, in the Senate an amendment was added to eliminate the 6 month waiting period for the CBI if the child has exhausted the lifetime maximum benefit. The bill should be voted out of the Senate by the end of the week.

CMS DIRECTIVE

On the Federal front, the Senate has included a moratorium on the CMS 8/17/07 Directive in the Iraqi Supplemental Bill. The CMS Directive is stalling the implementation of Ohio's expansion from 200-300% FPL. Although we are encouraged, the moratorium was not included in the House version of the bill. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
