Dayton, OH -
Under the leadership of Sisters of Charity Foundations, seven grantees from Cleveland visited the construction site for the new Daybreak facility. Under current conditions, the structure is impressive and inspires hope for young people. The services to youth offer an opportunity for a seamless transition to self-sufficiency and are indicative of the team work and efforts of the Daybreak staff. Linda Kramer, Executive Director says, “We focus on a strength-based philosophy that results in growth for compliance so our kids can continue to move forward.” 76% of the youth served at Daybreak pursued post-high school education or training and more than 100 moved off the streets to a safe living environment.
Daybreak’s New HomeDaybreak's facility will be fully accessible to the disabled and offer:
Daybreak’s EvolutionDaybreak strives to eliminate youth homelessness in the Miami Valley through comprehensive, results-oriented programs that provide safety and stability for runaway, homeless and otherwise troubled youth ages 10 – 21. It is the only agency of its kind in the Dayton area. It began in 1975 as an emergency shelter for teens ages 10-17 and changed its services to include youth up to age 21 under new federal guidelines. Immediate services include safe shelter and support for over 260 youth admitted at least once and over 2,500 overnight stays. Youth are assisted and referred for additional services as needed. In 2005, Daybreak began its Raise the Roof capital campaign to build efficiency apartments for youth and their children. The new facility will be completed April 2008.
