Voices for Ohio’s Children Juvenile Justice Initiative Focus Group

Voices for Ohio’s Children (VOICES) will convene six focus groups in June 2007 to secure attitudes and opinions from families of youth incarcerated in the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS). These focus groups are confidential and free to attend.

Who should attend the focus group?

Families of youth who are currently incarcerated, or who have youth that have been released from incarceration within the last five years from DYS are encouraged to attend the focus group discussion.

Background:

These focus groups are an excellent opportunity for families to express their opinions about their experiences while their children or family members are/were incarcerated in DYS facilities. Staff of VOICES will facilitate these confidential discussions to better understand the experiences of families and youth, and to identify how to engage families in the process more effectively. We want to know your opinions and experiences so that we may help identify public policy reforms needed to better serve Ohio’s youth. As part of our work, VOICES will: compile results from these discussions; discuss findings with members of the Juvenile Justice Initiative; prepare recommendations; issue and share final report with DYS.

Locations:

There have been six locations that have been scheduled statewide. We will be holding Focus Groups in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.
