Adam Walsh Act (SB 10) Update
The Voices for Ohio’s Children Juvenile Justice Initiative celebrates a temporary victory in the House on Thursday, June 28. Senate Bill 10 passed the House, 97–0. One amendment was offered and accepted which removes the $500,000 appropriation to the Attorney General’s office that was added in the previous week in Criminal Justice House committee, and makes some technical changes. Additionally, the new recommendations language will include the registry to apply bind over and Serious Youth Offenders (SYO) juvenile offenders only and it is retroactive. However, the super retroactive application was removed. Currently, the bill will go back to the Senate for acceptance of the House amendments.
The Juvenile Justice Initiative will continue efforts to work with legislators by sending follow-up letters to the U.S. Attorney General’s office as well as Governor Strickland for review during the comment period to end August 1, 2006.
